Updated information from the Tournament Manager

The Championship

The tournament will be played in accordance with WCF Sports Regulations v9.0 and the 6th Edition of the Rules of Golf Croquet and Official WCF Rulings thereon.

The format of the Championship will be best of three, 13-point game block play involving 8 blocks of 8 players, followed by a knockout involving the top 4 players from each block. Play-offs in accordance with WCF Sports Regulations to determine progression to the knockout stage will be arranged between contestants who finish tied for the final qualification place(s).

The draw for the knockout stage will be made in accordance with the Sports Regulations after the completion of the block stage and playoffs at the social event at the end of the block stage on Wednesday 3rd August.

The first two rounds of the Championship knockout will be best of three, the quarter finals onwards will be best of five. 
Time limits and double banking will not be used unless they become necessary to complete the event. 

Consolation Events

Players who do not qualify for the knockout stage of the main event will proceed to the Plate event.  This is expected to be played as four blocks of between 5 and 8 players each, playing single games over two days, with eight players progressing to a best of three knockout. All games will be at the same venue.

Players who are first round losers in the knockout stage of the Championship will proceed to the Bowl event. This event will be played as a best of three knockout. 

Players who are second round losers in the knockout stage of the Championship will proceed to the Shield event. This event will be played as a best of three knockout. 

The envisaged format of all consolation events may be altered if some players choose not to participate or if time allows for a change of format offering more games.

Playing Schedule

Play will start at 9:30 am each day and continue until dusk if necessary.

Days 1-4 30th July - 2nd August: Championship Blocks: 2 matches per player in six of the eight blocks. On each day, two blocks will have no games.

Day 5 3rd August: Championship Blocks: 1 match per player, Block Playoffs

Day 6 4th August: Championship First Round and Second Round, Bowl First Round, Plate Blocks

Day 7  5th August: Championship, Bowl and Shield Quarter Finals, Plate Blocks and Playoffs

Day 8 6th August: Championship, Bowl and Shield Semi Finals, Plate Quarter Finals and Semi Finals

Day 9 7th August:  Championship, Bowl, Shield and Plate Finals

Opening/Closing Ceremonies and Social Events

The Opening Ceremony and Player Briefing is open to players, accompanying supporters, and officials free of charge. Players with national uniforms are invited to wear them: a group photograph will be taken.

The Opening Ceremony is at 5pm on Friday 29th July

The Closing Ceremony and Prize-giving is open to all and will take place shortly after the Championship Final is complete.  Players are requested to wear their national uniforms or whites.
